Collection: Display Privacy Filters

Privacy screen filters for laptops and monitors — for open-plan offices, hot desks, reception areas, hospital and clinical settings, and anyone who works on a train.

What a privacy filter actually does

A privacy filter narrows the viewing angle of a display, typically to around 30 degrees either side of centre. The person in front of the screen sees it normally; anyone looking from the side sees black. That is a different job from an anti-glare filter, which cuts reflections, and from a blue light filter, which changes the spectrum for comfort — some products combine them, but the three are not interchangeable, and buying an anti-glare screen when you need privacy protects nothing.

Where it is a compliance question, not a comfort one

If staff handle personal data, patient records, financial details or anything else where shoulder-surfing is a genuine disclosure risk, screen filters are one of the cheapest controls available and are frequently written into a data protection or ISO 27001 policy. They matter most on laptops, which are used in public, and on any monitor visible from a corridor, a waiting area or a reception desk.

Fitting method

Magnetic filters attach to a metal frame or adhesive strips and lift off in one movement — the right choice for anyone who needs to share their screen in meetings and then remove it again. Frameless filters sit flush and suit touchscreens. Adhesive-tab and slide-mount filters are the economical option for a monitor that stays fitted. For laptops, check whether the filter clears the lid when closed.

Measure the panel, not the badge

Filters are cut to the panel and the aspect ratio, so a 24-inch 16:9 filter will not fit a 24-inch 16:10 screen, and a curved 21:9 monitor needs a filter made for it. Where a model-specific filter exists for your machine, it will fit better than a generic size.
