RF or Bluetooth

RF presenters use a small USB receiver, work the moment it is plugged in, and need no pairing — which is exactly what you want on a shared meeting-room PC or a machine you do not administer. Bluetooth models leave the USB port free and suit a laptop or tablet that travels with one person. Several current models do both. If the device is going to live in a room and be used by whoever walks in, choose RF and tape the receiver in place; if it belongs to an individual, Bluetooth is tidier.

Red laser, green laser, or neither

Red laser pointers are the cheapest and are perfectly adequate on a projector screen in a dimmed room. Green lasers read as considerably brighter to the eye and are the better choice for large rooms and bright conditions. Neither shows up on an LCD or LED display at all — the light passes through nothing and reflects nothing useful — so for a wall-mounted screen or a video call you want a model with software-driven highlighting and cursor control instead of a laser. Getting this wrong is the most common complaint about presenters, and it is entirely predictable from the room.

Range and practicalities

Quoted ranges run from around 10 m to 27 m. Take the room's longest diagonal rather than its length, check whether the presenter shows a battery state, and standardise on one model across a site so that spare receivers and batteries are interchangeable.
